Shirley Ann Sullens, 78, of Lakeland, Florida, gained her heavenly address on August 15, 2023. She was born on April 13, 1945, in Flora, Illinois to the late Bill and Marie Lynn. Shirley was also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Doris Harrison, and her brother Bryan Higgason. She is rejoicing to see all of them now.
Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Donald (Doc) Sullens, 61 years ago, and he remained the love of her life all of her days. Together they raised four children. Shirley was a devoted wife and mother; her family was her calling. She was known for her gentle and positive nature, always looking on the bright side and never speaking ill of anyone. Shirley was a compassionate and joyful, person and provided support and encouragement to ensure her children learned about life and have faith in God. She always was there to listen and encourage and pray for her family.
In her professional life, Shirley served as the Office Manager of DR Sullens Oilfield Construction company in Clay City, Illinois, for many years. She was known for keeping the office running smoothly and efficiently. Additionally, she worked in the offices of King and Queens Homes and held various other office positions throughout her career.
After raising her children, Shirley and her husband embarked on a remarkable journey, traveling across the country as over-the-road truckers. They had countless adventures and witnessed breathtaking landmarks and places. In her free time, Shirley was also an avid reader and enjoyed the art of crocheting.
Shirley’s legacy remains in the hearts of her adoring family, including her loving husband Don Sullens, and their children: Steve Sullens (Staci) of FL, Barbara Branche (Steve) of SC, John (Rusty) Sullens of GA, and Becky Brown (Jeff) of FL. She was also a cherished grandmother to Josh Sullens, Sean Sullens, Matthew Estheimer, Rebekah Kiser, Ray Sullens, Tyler Sullens, Cheyenne Vito, Caleb Brown, and Savannah Brown. Shirley leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Hap Higgason of Texas. She was known as Aunt Shirley to many nieces and nephews.
As a woman of faith, she was a member of the Family Worship Center for many years. Her strength and spiritual belief in God provided comfort throughout her life's journey. Passing her faith and belief in God to her family was foremost to Shirley.
In accordance with Shirley's wishes, no funeral services will be held. However, in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or your local Hospice Center.
