On Saturday, December 19, 2020, Jerry J Lowden Sr., loving father of five children, passed away at age 83. Born on April 10, 1937, in Elwood, Indiana to Robert Lowden and Rose Abbott. Jerry was raised in Elwood, Indiana by his mother and step-father (Lee Hampton) until moving to Arcadia, Michigan, and graduated with his GED before enlisting in the military. Jerry joined the U.S. Army at the age of 18 where he served for 26 years as a Forward Observer and rose to the rank of Sergeant Major. He served three and a half tours in the Vietnam War and was awarded 6 Purple Heart medals, the Air Medal, and the Bronze Star for valor. He retired from Ft. Lewis, Washington in 1974. At which time he moved to Lakeland, Florida. Jerry has spent the last fifteen years working with AmVet post 32 and has served as a member of the Honor Guard and Post Commander. Jerry was married twice; His First marriage was to Reva and his second marriage was to Cathy Murphy in 1970. Both marriages produced a total of five siblings; Robin, Jacquelyn (Jackie), Jerry (Jay), Harvey (Frankie), and Billy (BJ). Jerry had a passion for dealing with Veterans, providing guidance to both retirees and those who had recently enlisted. He was known to be quick-witted and had a passion for meeting life on his terms. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and his mother, Rose, step-father, Lee, his brothers Frank, John, Arthur, and son Frankie. He is survived by his previous spouses Reva and Cathy, four remaining children, Robin, Jackie, Jerry, and Billy, his siblings Mary, Nancy, Walt, Susanna, Deborah, and William. His grandchildren Charles, Christina, Jerry, Autumn, Gavin, Xavier, Summer, and Jordan, several cousins, nieces, and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021 at David Russell Funeral Home, 2005 S. Bartow Road, Lakeland Florida at 10 a.m., with graveside services at Florida National Cemetery at 2 p.m.
