Janivara Umesh was born August 20, 1952 in Bangalore, India to his mother Sharada and father Parameswariah. He joined Bangalore Medical College in 1969 and earned his degree in 1976, graduating with classmates that would become lifelong friends. Umesh came to United States later that year. He landed in New York City, joining his friends working in Brooklyn and embracing the city’s museums and cultural institutions. He joined residency in Internal Medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit. He started his career as an internist in Lexington, KY. He found his way to Bartow’s Polk General Hospital in 1984. Umesh established his own practice in 1992, a year after the birth of his son, Amith. He served as Chief of Staff at Bartow Regional Hospital. While he was devoted to his medical profession, Umesh’s interests extended to all corners of academia, with shelves filled with Physics and Astronomy books -- as well as several decades worth of Scientific American magazines. He had a great love for Indian and Western Classical music and learned to play Indian Classical violin. And as a longtime fan of tennis, he could be found on the court at Lakeland’s Beerman complex every weekend. Umesh leaves behind his loving family and friends.
