Robert Layton Obituary

Robert Bruner Layton, 69, of Lakeland Florida passed away on Friday January 26, 2018 at Lakeland Regional Health.

Robert was born in Odessa, Missouri and is preceded in his death by his parents, Betty and Ira Layton. Robert is survived by his wife Betsy Sproule Layton, sister Diane (John) Dow of Overland Park, Kansas, 5 nephews, 1 niece and many grand nieces and grand nephews.

Robert grew up in Kanasas City, Missouri where he attended Pembroke Country Day School graduating in 1967. Robert went on to attend Centenary College of Louisiana in 1973 earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in History. This is where he earned his nick name “Quick Draw or QD.” as he and his fellow classmates were quick to draw their smoking pipes on each other.

After college, Robert became employed for Blue Cross and Blue Shield, working with the main frame computers and where his new nick name became “Bump.” Robert worked at BCBS until his retirement 35 years later, though for the remainder of his life he would be affectionately called “Bump.” Due to his love for computers, following his retirement, Robert worked for the US Army as a contractor in Ft. Knox, Kentucky as a senior analyst.
