Luis "Jojo" Martinez died on April 21, 2019 at the age of sixty-eight in his home in Lakeland, Florida. Luis was born in the South Bronx in New York City on June 18, 1950. He was the second oldest of the five children born to Luis and Delia Martinez.
As a young boy, Luis attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and later went on to Dewitt Clinton High School. While in high school, Luis excelled in sports and was talented in the arts. As a young man he held various jobs and preferred working outdoors.
In October 1990, Luis relocated to Lakeland, Florida, where he met his wife, Maria Antonia Morrel. They were married on December 31,1996. Luis was employed at the Ameritus Assistant Living facility in Lakeland where he was later retired. He enjoyed the simplicities of life such as playing cards and drinking beer. Luis was predeceased by his parents, Luis and Delia Martinez.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Martinez and his four siblings; Josefina Martinez-Garo, Daniel Martinez, Lucia Martinez-Zabala and Josephine Martinez Bazan-Bass, and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephew. He will always be remembered and loved.
Luis will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, located at 210 West Lemon Street, Lakeland, Florida.
